I love PU: Candle festival in Candelara – when a village turns into a fairy land

Dirce in CandelaraDo you remember ‘la Dirce‘ (Mrs Dirce), the red-haired lady in the picture? She is the testimonial of the event Un Paese e Cento Storie – One village and one hundred stories – and represents the authentic Italian hospitality you can experience in this very special corner of Italy: a magic territory stretching from the Adriatic coast (the town of Pesaro, where the composer Gioachino Rossini was born) to the hilly hinterland up to the Renaissance ‘Ideal City’ of Urbino – ‘World Heritage Site’ and homeland of Raphael.

Mrs Dirce is a simple woman who makes her own ‘passatelli’ or ‘tagliatelle’ and loves preparing local traditional food when her children and little grandchildren go to visit on Sundays. She lives in a little village on the hills, leads a happy life surrounded by beautiful landscapes in the northern Marche region (the ones Piero della Francesca portrayed so well), eats local and healthy food and, most of all, loves cooking for friends and her beloved ones.

A meal, is the soul of the cook turned into food: that’s her motto. And this is why she is the testimonial of the event I’ve often wrote about, One village, one hundred stories.

Well, tomorrow and on Sunday (and on Dec. 5th and 6th too) Dirce – and her whole staff – will be attending the event ‘Candele a Candelara’, the only event in Italy devoted to candles, to promote the many initiatives scheduled in 2016: workshops, classes on ‘Italian lifestyle’, itineraries and much more. Where Lemons Blossom, Media Partner of ‘La Dirce’, will be there.

Cannot wait till the electrical lights will be turned off and the medieval village will shine just with candle light! I’ll take pictures (and post them, of course!).

“I love PU” is a section written entirely in English and dedicated to foreign tourists, where you will find short report on appointments, events, history, people, culture, sport and curiosity of our beautiful territory: the province of Pesaro and Urbino.
